"Sgt. Murphy (Rick) and I were Sgts. together with A Btry 1st LAAM Bn. 66-67. Rick and I together would provide security up and down Highway from Hai Van Pass to DA Nang. I was shocked to hear of his passing he was one the finest Marines and Motor T Sgt I had the honor to work with. I spent two years with 1st LAAM Bn in Vietnam and there isnt a single memory that dosent include Rick. God Bless you my Friend, May God continue to comfort your family. And we will serve together again Semper FI"

"To the Murphy Family,
I was so sorry to hear that Rick had passed away and I want to extend my deepest sympathy during this sad time. I met Rick when I worked as a teacher at Thorntons Ferry School. He took great care of all of us and helped make the school a great place to work and learn! One winter day years ago when I was staying late to prepare for the week, it was dark when I was got ready to leave. Rick walked me out and watched me get in my car to make sure I was safe! I'll never forget that and know he quietly did so much for everyone. He was a kind man with a big heart who always looked for ways to help and serve. May he rest in peace and I pray you find comfort in fond memories and the promise of eternal life. Eileen LoVerme"
"Dear Murphy Family,It is with sincere sadness that we have learned of Ricky's passing. We go back many many years(decades, ouch) and it is comforting to know Rick maintained his wit and sense of humor. His Marine Corp service ,during time of war,was both honorable and courageous and will always be appreciated by America and it's people.Rest the rest of the most deserving Rick..Jeff Moreno on behalf of all Moreno's"
