Obituary for Jean P Carpenter

January 2, 1925 - April 12, 2018
Keene, New Hampshire | Age 93

Creative Spirit

Jean Shirley (Hampton) Page Carpenter, 93 years old, of Langdon Place in Keene, NH was born Jan. 2, 1925 in Somerville, MA. The daughter of the late Florence and William Hampton of Dunstable, MA, she lived in Dunstable since 1940 spending much of her early years in Arlington, MA.

After graduating from Groton High School, she attended the Vesper George School of Art in Boston. Jean worked in Boston and Cambridge for years as Draftsman and Technical Illustrator for Coffin and Richardson Engineering, Baird Corporation, and the Geophysical Corporation of America. She traveled with friends and enjoyed life when not working.

Her passion for art continued throughout her life, as she was a member of the Boston Society of Independent Artists and exhibited watercolors at the New England Contemporary Artists shows in Boston. In 2008 the town of Dunstable created a calendar of Rural Land Trust paintings she had done.
Jean was an avid antique dealer and had a shop "Country Village" in Dunstable in the 1970's. She exhibited antiques at the St. Stan's Antique Shows in Nashua and set up in shops in both NH and Maine through the 1980's.

Dunstable was her home town that she loved deeply, and it showed by being an active member of the Dunstable Seniors, the Dunstable Council of Aging, and the Tyngsboro-Dunstable Historical Society for many years.
Jean was the wife of Merle Page, Jr. for 25 years. He passed away in 1985. She later married Everett Carpenter who passed in 1994 and was the long time companion of Phillip Pender, Sr. who passed in 2012. She was predeceased by her brothers, William Hampton, Jr. of Dunstable (2008) and Robert Hampton of Boston (1994).

Her strong, independent spirit carries on through her son, Bradford Page, daughter-in-law Heidi, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and foster great-grandchildren, all of New Hampshire. Our family thanks the loving care that the staff at Langdon Place provided to Jean during her years she made Keene her home.

A grave side gathering of friends and family will be held at the Dunstable Center Cemetery on May 5 at Noon. All are welcome. Instead of flowers, Jean asked that memorial donations may be made to: Save the Children at or by calling 800-728-3843.
