Loving Mother, Wife and Friend

Obituary

Toby Ann (Young) Gill, 79, passed quietly Tuesday morning March 03, 2020 at Southern NH Medical Center after succumbing to her battle with Alzheimer's.

She was born to Milton and Georgia (Gunnerson) Dixon September 20th, 1940 in Fitchburg, MA. Toby was a graduate of Caribou High School Class of 1958 where she lettered in basketball, served in Glee Club, Chordettes, President of Tri-Hi-Y and Secretary Northeast District YMCA Council. Post High School, she moved to Worcester, MA to attend Becker Junior College earning her degree in Medical Transcription in 1960. She worked at New England Deaconess Hospital and lived in Boston, MA. Toby married Stephen Young, May 1962 where they began their lives together in N. Salem, NH. Through his employment with Raytheon, they traveled extensively while growing their young family; Texas, California, Florida, Taiwan, Korea, Saudi Arabia and returning to settle in Windham, NH in 1971.

She was a strong and resourceful Mother, finding the means to support herself and 4 children. Her warm personality and skill set gained her employment easily with Cyr Oil Company, The Salem Boys and Girls Club, and Digital Equipment Corporation. While with Digital, Toby was a long-standing member of Toastmasters. She held a Class B license and gained real enjoyment driving a school bus, interacting with children and assisting with field trips.

Later in life, Toby was fortunate to reconnect with John Gill and married in May 1996. Their union was a true friendship of shared interests, affording them opportunity to travel, pursue hobbies, and devote time to grandchildren. She shared her love of music, piano, dance, quilting and games. She adored her church community, gospel hymns and was an active member of the Litchfield Community Church, choir and food pantry. Her last years were spent as a resident at the Inn at Fairview.

Toby is predeceased by her late husband John Gill, brother Ken Dixon and his wife Alice and Sister-In-Law Anne (Young) Miller.
